Setup Instructions

To install Best Accountability on your MacOS device, follow the steps below on the MacOS device you wish to monitor.

Requires MacOS 15.6 (Sequoia) or newer. To check your version, click the Apple menu in the top left hand corner of the screen, then select About This Mac. If your Mac is running an older version of MacOS and can't be updated, use the compatibility option for older versions of MacOS at the bottom of this guide instead.

1. Download the Best Accountability installer: https://mac.truple.io/ba/prod/Best%20Accountability.pkg

2. Open the installer and click through the steps to install the app.

3. Once installed, open Launchpad and click the Best Accountability app.

4. Click Add Device to Account.

5. Enter the subscribed Best Accountability account email address (Truple and ScreenKin accounts work too).

6. Enter a device name.

7. Click Add Device to Account.

8. Grant the app access to the network so it can use the internet.

9. The subscribed account owner can log in and approve the request from app.bestaccountability.com.

   (app.truple.io or app.screenkin.com can be used as well)

10. Click Check if Granted.

11. Click Request Permission.

12. Click Open System Settings.

13. Toggle the Best Accountability app's recording permission so it's on.

14. Enter your MacOS password or fingerprint to approve the change.

15. Click Quit & Reopen.

16. Once the application reopens, you'll be prompted to enable automatic launching. Click Enable Now.

    Don't skip this step. It only takes one click, and it's what allows the app to start automatically whenever the Mac is turned on. Without it, monitoring won't resume after the device restarts.

Congratulations! This MacOS device is now being monitored. Within a few minutes, check the report and you should see screenshots being captured.

Compatibility option for older versions of MacOS

The Best Accountability Mac app requires MacOS 15.6 (Sequoia) or newer. If your Mac is running MacOS 15.6 or newer, don't use this section — follow the setup instructions above instead.

• If your Mac can be updated to MacOS 15.6 or newer, we recommend updating MacOS first (System Settings > General > Software Update), then following the setup instructions above.
• If your Mac can't be updated that far, you can still monitor it with the original Truple Mac app by following the steps below. Best Accountability is built on Truple, and the Truple Mac app works with your Best Accountability account.

Things to know about the original Truple Mac app

1. The app, its installer, and its icon are all named Truple rather than Best Accountability. It reports to your Best Accountability account just the same.
2. It has been sunset. It still works, but it no longer receives updates, new features, or bug fixes. If a MacOS update causes it to stop functioning, it won't be fixed.
3. App updates must be disabled after installing (see the last steps below).
4. It does not support blacking out banking websites. We strongly encourage the use of the image blurring feature to hide private information that may be captured.
5. It is signed with a self signed certificate rather than being notarized by Apple. This means 1-2 extra steps are needed in order to run the installer (described in the instructions below), and MacOS will show a warning stating the app could be dangerous. That warning is expected.

Step 1: Download the installer for your version of MacOS

• MacOS 10.15 (Catalina) through MacOS 15.5
  • Download https://mac.truple.io/finalElectronVersion/truple.macos.installer.pkg
• MacOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or 10.14 (Mojave)
  • Download https://mac.truple.io/electron19/prod/truple.macos.installer.pkg
• MacOS 10.12 (Sierra) and older
  • The Mac app will not run. Please use the Chrome Extension setup guide to get coverage on your machine.

If the first installer doesn't give you the option to select an install location, your version of MacOS is too old for it. Use the second installer instead.

MacOS 10.14.3 and older only: The Truple Mac app requires the Swift 5 runtime libraries. Please download and install them from here prior to installing the app.

Step 2: Open the installer

Because the installer isn't notarized by Apple, MacOS blocks it when you open it the normal way and shows a warning like the one below. That's expected.

The steps to get around it depend on the version of MacOS you have.

MacOS 15 (Sequoia)

1. Open the Finder app, go to the Downloads folder, and double click the truple.macos.installer.pkg file.

2. MacOS will show a warning stating the installer can't be opened. Click Done (don't click Move to Trash).

3. Open the System Settings app.

4. Click Privacy & Security.

5. Scroll down to the Security section, and click Open Anyway next to the message about the Truple installer.

   The Open Anyway button only shows up after you've tried to open the installer, and it goes away after about an hour. If you don't see it, repeat steps 1 and 2.

6. Click Open Anyway again to confirm, then enter your Mac password (or use Touch ID).

MacOS 14 (Sonoma) and older

1. Open the Finder app

2. Go to the Downloads folder

3. control + click or right click on the truple.macos.installer.pkg file, then select Open. (Double clicking the file won't work--you have to use control + click or right click.)

4. Read the warning message, then click Open.

Step 3: Install and set up the app

1. Install the Truple Application by clicking through the installer. At the end, the app should open automatically.

   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   

2. Click Get Started

3. Login with your subscribed Best Accountability account*

4. Answer the questions

5. You'll then be prompted to grant the Screen Capture permission for the Truple app. Click Open System Preferences to do so.

6. Check the box near the Truple app.

7. Click Quit Now to shutdown the Truple app immediately.

8. Open the Truple app again (if it didn't automatically relaunch) to start monitoring (it will now have access to the screen)

* If the device is not physically with the account owner, the account owner should not share their Best Accountability credentials. Please open a support ticket and we'll help you get the device added.

Step 4: Disable app updates

Don't skip this step. The original Truple Mac app no longer receives updates, so app updates need to be turned off.

1. Find the Truple icon in the notification bar located near the clock in the top right hand corner of the screen.
2. right click (or control + click) on the icon, then select Advanced Settings.
3. Select Toggle updates to disable them.

If you ever reinstall the app, disable app updates again afterwards.

Step 5: Reboot

A reboot is required after the first install to initialize some of the anti-tamper features. At your convenience, reboot the machine.

You can adjust the device's settings (image blurring, screenshot frequency, etc) from app.bestaccountability.com.

To uninstall the Truple Mac app later, click the Truple icon in the notification bar, select Uninstall, confirm, then grant the requested permissions so the app can remove itself. Uninstalling will trigger a tamper alert and remove the device from your account.
