Disable settings blocker from iPhone/iPad

Document outlining steps to disable the Shortcut Automation blocker used to block the Settings app

Last updated: February 15, 2026

If your Apple account is an adult account, you'll need to setup the Shortcut Automation blocker as outlined in step #4 of the Best Accountability setup guide. This will prevent you from being able to make changes to your Screen Time permission by blocking the Settings app. While this is cumbersome to have to deal with, it provides the most tamper proof protection possible on iOS.

Most of the Settings you need to adjust on your phone on a regular basis can be accessed via the "Control Center" (swipe down menu from the top right corner of the screen). See Apple's article describing how to access the menu and how you can customize it.

However, sometimes you'll need to access the full Settings app. The steps below outline how you can disable the blocker, make changes to your Settings app, then re-enable it.

  1. Go to the device settings page on your account
  2. Disable "Screenshot Monitoring"
  3. Click "Save" in the bottom right hand corner.
  4. You can now access the "Settings" app on your iPhone/iPad
  5. When you're done using the Settings app, go back to the device settings page on your account
  6. Enable "Screenshot Monitoring"
  7. Click "Save" in the bottom right hand corner
  8. Open up the Best Accountability app
  9. Grant any permissions requested.
